Conservation
We have had many successes in captive breeding, education, research, and wildlife reintroduction; and we continue to strive in these areas. We strive to support all of the Species Survival Plans (SSP) that involve the animals in our collection through involvement in research, conferences, management committees, and monetary donations. Knoxville Zoo is a recognized leader in the captive breeding of red pandas. A biannual SSP keeper training workshop is hosted by Knoxville Zoo to disseminate successful husbandry, mother-cub management, hand rearing, training, and genetic management of the red panda. One of the main goals of Knoxville Zoo is conservation of natural resources, not only the animals, but the environment as well.
