Zoofari 2012 Live Auction Preview

1. Wine Cellar, 100 Bottles of Wine

We have raided the cellars of Knoxville's most generous wine aficionados to present this incredible collection of 100 wines unlike any lot you will ever see and ready for your bidding prowess. This auction portfolio contains rare, premium and collectible as well as everyday wines. The selections are from both sides of the equator, single varietals and blends, reds and whites, still wine and sparkling, newer vintages and those at their peak.  These are wines that will stock your cellar for years to come as well as wines that you can enjoy today.

Classics from the Old World have been generously provided by Adrian and Larsen Jay: 1986 Haut Brion (a First Growth Bordeaux!), several left bank standards such as Chateau Lynch Bages, Chateau Branaire and the leading Second Growth Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou.  The Right Bank of Bordeaux has not been forgotten as evidence by the iconic house of Chateau Ausone's second label La Chapelle.

From the great wine region of Northern Italy, Piedmont, Veneto and Tuscany are not forgotten thanks to Brent Barnett of McScrooges, Nicole and Chad Nicole Montgomery, and Adrian and Larsen Jay.

We are pleased to offer wines produced in such small quantities that they are never found outside the winery and grapes that are not commonly found, especially in the retail outlets of this area.  Jenny and Randy Boyd present their Serendipity Malbec and Corte of which only mere dozens were made.  Other houses with small allocations include Revana (Susan and Sam McCamy) and Madorom (Julie and Louis Schaad).

For your next grand event there are large format selections such as a six-litre Kenwood Artist Series Cabernet, equivalent to eight bottles donated by David Purvis of Farragut Wine & Spirits.  The magnums represented are:  Belle Glos Pinot Noir (Thad Cox), Ken Wright Pinot Noir (anonymous) and the famous negociant house, Produttori del Barbaresco (Brent Barnett).

Omnipresent and outsanding California "blue chip" Cabernet Sauvignon houses are represented including Silver Oak and Cakebread Cellars.  You will find Cabernets that are more difficult to find in the marketplace such as:  Caymus Special Selection (Chelly and Kevin Clayton) and Chateau Montelena (Cindy and Tommy Hindman).

2.  Hunt Slonem, Amazons, 2012, Oil on Wood

Globally, more than 100 major museums including New York and Louisiana-based artist Hunt Slonem's work in their collections, among them the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.  Knoxville is proud and honored to present this new work by Hunt Slonem "Amazons"  personally selected and donated by Mr. Slonem on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Zoofari.

Hunt Slonem is as notable for his prestigious art career as for his collections of homes, birds and antiques.  Mr. Slonem identifies himself as an "expressionist" painter and is best known for his intensely-colored paintings of birds, animals and flowers.  Many paintings are finished with a signature cross-hatch technique signifying the filters through which we view life.  Mr. Slonem enjoys finding and collecting unique, elaborate, often Victorian-era gilded frames.  When paired with his paintings they create a juxtaposition between the art and the frame, indeed making the frames part of the final creation.  On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Zoofari, Mr. Slonem has personally selected and donated this original oil on wood, 23 by 30 inches.

Since 1977, Hunt Slonem has had more than 350 exhibitions at prestigious galleries and museums internationally.  He has been commissioned to paint large-scale murals for the Bryant Park Grill, New York City and the former World Trade Center, NYC.  He has designed china for Tiffany's and hand-crafted rugs for Tibetano.  Mr. Slonem is the subject of a documentary by Grey Gardens, director Albert Maysles, as well as the subject of a monograph and numerous books documenting the art he paints and as well as his homes and collections as an integral piece of his artistic expression.  Hunt Slonem  received the prestigious "Stars of Design" award in October 2009 in New York City, the Greenshields Foundation award in 1976, the National Endowment for the Arts Grant in 1991, and numerous others.  He studied painting at Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine; Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN; and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University of Louisiana.
