8.  In Celebration of the Grape
Twelve bottles of rare and fine wine:  11 Bordeaux and 1 Burgundy

“Zoofari attendees are fortunate indeed as tonight an amazing lot of highly revered red wine is part of the live auction.   Fully aged wines of this caliber are almost never found at retail and can be only be accessed in wine and estate auctions.  To find First Growth Bordeaux at a charity auction is a rarity in the world and should not be passed on by any serious investor or wine collector.”

Among these wines are three bottles at the highest level of classification in this amazing wine region.  This grading system was originated in 1855 and is still held in high regard. Beyond this strict classification, the vintage is always of importance as the climate can fluctuate greatly in this part of France. In this lot are wines at the top of both vintage and classification. The majority of critics agree rating two of the wines at the highest score possible of 100 points.

Please note that one of the bottles is from Burgundy rather than Bordeaux.  This wine is produced by the legendary house Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, more commonly abbreviated as DRC.  This bottle is 100% Grand Cru Pinot Noir.  Grand Cru is the highest rating a Burgundy vineyard can have and the rarity of this wine is reflected in the auction value of $1,975:  the highest valued wine on the list.

The collection has been in the care of one avid collector and the bottles have been treated with care and in climate controlled storage since they were purchased. The listing below details this lot by vintage, house, estimated value, rating and my personal comments.  The estimated values were based on past, but recent auctions in the United States and England.
